Bear Cub Baseball

Oren has taken his first taste of a wonderful summer tradition - baseball.  In Upper Arlington the youth baseball league is well organized and supported with more than 800 kids.
Oren is in the youngest league available - bear cub t-ball.  Much to his mother's approval he plays for the Pirates with 13 other boys from around town.  It has been a learning experience for both Oren and dad. Dad volunteered as one of the team's four coaches.

Oren is number 4 - after OSU basketball player Aaron Craft (the only player/number he knows).

He is a few games into the season so there will be more photos to come as the season progresses.
Go Pirates!!

Easter 2014

Our annual Easter tradition is short but sweet....we enjoy a few different easter egg hunts and then Easter Bruch at The Ohio State Faculty Club (thanks to the Paulines).  This year was no different.

Movie Night

The kids are now old enough that they demand movie night.  We go from the classic Disney movies to Star Wars - you never know what they will want.  The older Disney movies are always a hit-they love them.  The newer ones (90's) are so-so.  You pull up Dumbo, Jungle Book, or the current favorite Aristocats, and they are glued. Oren is currently into Star Wars so we have shown him a couple of the originals.  Rosey lasts about a half an hour with those.  But usually every Friday night at Glenmere, this is the scene....

Protecting the Universe

Spring is in full swing here in Ohio with summer just around the corner.  Of course that means fun in the sun, swimming and baseball.  T-ball for Oren starts next week....It also means Oren's time at daycare is coming to a close (he has been there since he was 3 months old).  He will be heading to Upper Arlington's kindergarten starting in August.

With that, daycare has been having all kinds of fun themed days for the kids in preparation for summer. Superhero day is one of the latest- It was of course Iron Man for Oren.  Rosey of course made up her own super hero - Minnierella.  Yes, thats right-her two favorite, Minnie Mouse and Cinderella combined to fight evil....

Super Hero Brunch

Ahhh, there is nothing like the joy of meeting you heroes - especially when they are the Avengers!
Oren and dad had a special lunch at the Columbus Zoo because Oren's hero were in town to battle the evil Green Goblin.  Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor battled the villain right before their eyes.

An Iron Man face painting, and super hero caricature were an added bonus, but nothing could compete with the opportunity to meet and take a picture with the Avengers.  It was awesome!!!!
Of course we stopped by and chatted with the Matinees and Elephants in the pouring down rain - we couldn't leave without saying hello.

Here are a few photos:

Columbus Marathon

Sara quietly completed a personal goal two weeks ago......she completed the Columbus Half Marathon!
It was a terribly cost October morning but when we saw her round the corner at mile 11 she was still going strong.
Another item checked off the list - we are proud of her.

Under the Weather - Again

We wrote a post earlier this fall describing the difficult stretch of ailments our entire family was going through. That period of time was when we fell off the blog train.  We survived and were pretty healthy through the winter until last week.

It appears that our family responds to the changing seasons in our own unique way.  We try and get a sick as possible, all at the same time.  So here is what we went through in the fall........

It has been a rough six of weeks here on Glenmere.

It all started a couple of weeks ago with Oren and a nasty cough that he picked up at school.  After a full week with a high temperature and nasty cough, he was diagnosed with the Croup - which turned into a bronchitis.  He was is pretty rough shape and stayed home from school for a week and a half, even missing his pre-school Halloween party :(

Of course you know that when a kid is that sick, it is bound to snag someone else.....Rosemary.  She began with the same rough cough and fever.  As we were dishing out the meds and on the mend, we found out that grandma boyer was diagnosed with pneumonia (she had watched Oren a few of the days he was home sick).  It has hit her pretty hard - even spending a night at the ER.  The kids began to regress and so we took them back to the doctor - pneumonia for both!  That same day Todd went into the doctor after staying home for a few days - guess what - that's right, pneumonia as well.

Sara was the only one to escape.....well she did enjoy an upper respiratory infection.  We believe the kids are over the pneumonia, while Todd is on his 3rd week of battling pneumonia.

We can't believe that we will be excited to see fall go this year - as long as winter brings us some relief.  Wish us luck....

Now that Spring is here it is time for us to fall victim to the changing seasons in Boyer fashion.  Last week Oren was home sick with the 100-103 fever all week and a terrible cough that would not relent.  We were very nervous because it was flashbacks to when he developed pneumonia in the spring.  He visited the doctors twice with not much luck.  He was diagnosed with bronchitis and we were sent home to deal with it. Of course it developed into pneumonia.rrrrrrr.  So another trip to the hospital for xrays and finally real medicine for relief.  After a couple of days on meds he is on the mend and finally back at school getting stronger every day.
RRB was great during Oren's battle but she is now sharing in his misery.  She began to develop signs of pneumonia but luckily we were able to pry meds out of our doctor enabling us to be proactive vs. reactive with Rosey.  She is recovering quickly which is lucky.  Of course both Mom and Dad have been battling the colds from the kids and Dad has been very cautious not to let his cold develop into pneumonia again.

I wonder what the transition to summer will hold for us.....

Video Star

We try not to share that many work stories with everyone.  Nobody cares about the ugly details of architecture and the building industry - you just want to see the pretty picture, we understand.

We did want to share this funny story though:
WSA STUDIO - Todd's office is creating a series of videos to support their office's mission of people, process, product.  The first video is on the process of how they work with clients throughout the design and building process.  Todd and his award winning project were featured - check it out.

Back to the Blog

It has been almost 5 months since our last post.......sorry.

It has been busy around our house and we have had little time to share our adventures.  So we will try to be diligent in getting you up to date with what the past couple of months held for the Boyers.

So hang on tight - updates are on the way.
