We respond...
After an odd string of events we pulled out of a downtown Columbus garage with a 1940 Chevy shortbed pick up.....
Sara's previous boss had this truck in his little garage for the past ten years, tinkering in his free time. He suffered multiple health setbacks in the past couple of years leaving the truck abandoned. Todd mentioned that if they were ever interested in selling the truck to give him a call. We think they must have been thinking about for a while because suddenly they were ready to sell.
After some negotiations, and getting Grandpa Boyer involved, the truck found a new home. Todd has had an interest in vintage trucks for some time and with Grandpa Boyer getting set for retirement the timing could not have been better. For now it will be in Dayton (no garage at 2201) as restoration work begins. The truck had run only twice in the past ten years and had not been started in the past two year, which made us a little nervous. It only took Grandpa two days and we were driving around the block - amazing. Now the brakes are a different story.
We are hoping it will be ready for a car show and parade circuit next summer - fingers crossed.
Sara and I felt that while some fathers/parents hand down family earlooms like watches, furniture, etc. to their kids we thought this truck will be our gift to Oren and Rosemary someday. Their great grandpa Hill spent his life working for GM, and their grandpa boyer and dad will share memories with them in it as they grow.....
