August 30 was the official date but the C-17 group hosted a wonderful event the Tuesday prior to honor dad. He has served as the Deputy Director of the C-17 group for the past couple of years. Prior to the C-17 he spent years as the deputy director of the F-16, B-1, and B-2. His early career was spent with the F-15 and the flight simulation group. Of course that is all we know because it is all so "confidential".
The event, attended by aroudn 150 of his closest friends, was seperated into a formal honoring and presentation and then lunch with a more light hearted "roasting" of dad. During the honoring he was awarded with commindations from the Governor of Ohio, The Air Force, The President of The Ohio State University, and many additional dignitaries. He was awarded a flag that flew over the capital building earlier in the week and the highest service award (medal of honor) presented to a civilian by the US military (pretty significant stuff).
Dad's C-17 group has implimented the sale of Boeing C-17's to NATO counties around the world so many of the militaries partners/allies were present for the event. He was presented with gifts and humorous commentary from officials at Boeing (who flew in from Long Beach for the event), members of the Austrilian Air Force, the UK Royal Air Force, the Canandian Air Force, and NATO.
It was a fun afternoon and a great way to honor dad and him many professional accomplishments. Everyone (mom, Lindsey and Eddie (Edward did not attend), Todd, Sara, Oren and Rosemary) were all able to attend. He paved our way and we never take that for granted.
Time for him to work on the truck we posted about earlier.....well we will let him take a few days off.
